We currently have a Microsoft DFS infrastructure that replicates data for HA, the Windows file Servers are VMs on our VMware cluster at each site.
We have been asked to use the 2 Netapp filers we currently do not make much use of to replace the Windows file servers and get the data off of our VMware environment (the storage for that is EMC VNX Fibre channel which is nearing capacity)
I understand that the Netapps CIFS shares can be targets in a DFS infrastructure but the part i am struggling to understand is how we replicate this.
MS DFS replication handles everything seamlessly so users edit the copy of the data that is closest to them, also if one of the file servers were to fail then all requests are automatically redirected to the other replica.
We we be able to achieve the same thing using Netapp filers?
Has anybody used Netapps for a replicated DFS solution?
