OnCommand Insight 6.4.1 contains a new attribute on the Volume object: written capacity. Some storage array platforms have the ability to know how much data has been written to thin provisioned volumes, and some of our customers have been looking for this visibility. This can be relevant to companies who are preallocating volumes on pool based architectures, and would like to get some insight for potentially how much they could be saving by not preallocating all the space on their volumes.
In the following screenshot, we see there are 167 TDEVs, which are seen as 3117.13 GB worth of capacity by the hosts - this is the "Capacity" of these volumes.
The Vmax has had to allocate 1,305.23GB of capacity to support those volumes - this is "Consumed Capacity" in the OCI client. 993.78GB has actually been written to by the hosts - this is the new "Written Capacity" attribute. It is available in the OCI DWH
