We have configured the snap mirror volumes on 32 bit aggregate and now we need to upgrade the aggr to 64 bit due to space constraint issue.
Can the source snap mirror volume be in 32 -bit aggregate & destination volume be in 64 bit aggregate & vice-versa??
You can refer the table below.
Volume SnapMirror interoperability matrix
|Destination Volume Type|
|Data ONTAP 7.3.x||Data ONTAP 8.0.x||Data ONTAP 8.1|
|32-bit Aggregate||32-bit Aggregate||64-bit Aggregate||32-bit Aggregate||64-bit Aggregate|
|Data ONTAP 7.3.x||32-bit Aggregate||Yes||Yes||No||Yes||Yes|
|Data ONTAP 8.0.x||32-bit Aggregate||No||Yes||No||Yes||Yes|
|Data ONTAP 8.1||32-bit Aggregate||No||No||No||Yes||Yes|

I'm in the same circumstances with our systems as well.
From all I have read and studied yes you can as per below link page 7
What i'm after is regarding the cifs and vols is the upgrade from 32bit to 64bit disruptive and does it require a reboot?
Is it worth upgrading to 8.2 instead of 8.1 since were doing the upgrade anyway just makes sense to go to the latest version?
What's your current ONTAP version ..?
Upgrading ONTAP required rboot.

Starting with Data ONTAP 8.2, all license keys are 28 characters in length.
Licenses installed prior to Data ONTAP 8.2 continue to work after you upgrade to Data ONTAP
8.2. However, if you need to reinstall a license when you are running Data ONTAP 8.2, the old
key is not accepted.
