Currently we are doing NDMP backup (using Netbackup ) of snapvaulted volumes through volume snapshot name (e.g. /vol/ABC/.snapshot/ABC.0).
We are moving now to Protection Manager where snapshot name is not static (it's use a long string for snapshot).
1. We can take backup directly through volume name. Will it be consistent like backup through snapshot. I heard that NDMP backup through volume name creates a temporary snapshot. If yes, can I assume backup through Volume name is cosistent same as backup through snapshot.
2. We have to create a scripting solution to get the latest snapshot of volume and take a backup but it look very complex to implement.
In all the cases I have doubt on scenario where I am taking a NDMP backup (using snapshot or direct with volume) and snapvault is also running. Would my running backup will consistent or what would be the current running snapshot . This situation doubt on my current backup approach where we maintain 10 snapshot copies. Suppose NDMP backup is running using /vol/ABC/.snapshot/ABC.0 and at the same time snapvault is running. How new snapshot will become /vol/ABC/.snapshot/ABC.0 and /vol/ABC/.snapshot/ABC.0 to /vol/ABC/.snapshot/ABC.1 ....
