I'm migrating CIFS shares from FAS2050 (Ontap 18.104.22.168) to FAS2240-2 (8.1.2P2 7M). After last update and break of mirrors and creating shares as they were working on the old FAS2050 for some CIFS shares (not all) this message shows up
The share name ‘xxx’ will not be accessible by some MS-DOS workstations
Because I was using only my contact's notebook so I'm not sure if something is wrong with the rest of CIFS clients of the AD, at least he said his access to folders are OK.
All comments will be appreciated
Actually I wanted to keep simple so used volume snapmirror, besides the customer doesn't use or know about qtrees. I checked up security and seems to copy that from source volume (ntfs).
I don't use to check that UTF stuff how do I proceed to do that? Is it not inherited from source vol because of VSM?
You can check with command vol lang volume-name
But if you don't have any old MSDOS client :-)
I suppose only WindowsXP /Vista/Seven workstation, you can ignore this warning, as may be you have share with "long name" that MSDOS workstation will not be able to handle because of format 8.3 and limitation of 12 characters
I see this all the time creating shares with names that aren't compatible with old MSDOS systems - names longer than 12 characters, as Ricco4400 mentioned, but I would always run into it with underscores (_) in the share name. I never had a problem with the shares not being accessible from Windows.
Thanks for all your replies, guys! The VSM tactics worked with no problems.
I have a last question regarding snapmirror: I just to talk to another customer and he's misplaced a CIFS share (qtree) in a volume with a large snapshot schedule so we're looking for a way to evacuate this qtree to another vol with nosnap=on option within the same filer (FAS2040 Ontap 8.1P1 7M)
Can we use qtree snapmirror (QSM) to copy the source to another volume, shut down services pointing to this CIFS share, delete this share, last update, break/release and publish this new qtree as the original CIFS shares? It should work but I want your comments pls
