I currently run one FAS2020 serving approximately 30 user home directories in a mix of NFS (80%) and CIFS (20%).
My homes are all stored on a single qtree stored on 1TB flexvol inside a 1TB SATA 14 disk RAID-DP aggregate (ds14mk2 AT with multipath). Users do seem to have a lot of small files (mostly small code files). The volume has 20% free space. No other loads on the filer.
The problem is that I'm experiencing major slowdown, more evident when enumerating files (ls; dir; ndmp; etc).
By looking at DFM, I can't see any apparent problem. CPU usage average is bellow 20%, cache hits are generally in the range of the +95%. Even Ops are generally bellow 400.
What I would like to ask is:
- How can I further troubleshoot the problem (as told, I have access to dfm so can get very wide metrics)?
- How can I improve the layout of my homes?
- Will moving to a qtree per user improve the speed?
