Plans for Exchange 2007 on VMware and NetApp?

Currently Being Moderated

Joe Jerebic, an IS Manager with Calgary-based Unity Builders Group, recently shared a case study in Tech OnTap about his team's migration to Exchange 2007 with VMware VI3 and NetApp storage. He includes some interesting tips. For example, the team created a rule that keeps the VMs that run the Exchange 2007 mailbox server, hub and client access server, Symantec Enterprise Vault Archive server, and Blackberry server on the same ESX server. That way all communication that occurs between those servers actually happens on the virtual switch within the ESX server and doesn't traverse physical network switches.

You can check out Joe's case study at http://www.netapp.com/us/communities/tech-ontap/exchangeonvm-0708.html.

What are your thoughts about combining email with virutalized servers and storage? If you're already running Exchange in a VMware and NetApp environment, how's it working? Any best practices or key learnings?
