Making the Switch to Oracle Database 11g and Securing Data

Oracle database 11g release 2 just came out. The arrival of the second version of Oracle’s latest will undoubtedly result in a lot of activity as companies try to make sure that existing applications will work as expected on 11g. Testing efforts are always hampered by shortages of storage and the need for complex infrastructure to run tests. In the September issue of Tech OnTap, we wrote an article that describes a simplified testing methodology using NetApp FlexClone, Oracle Real Application Testing and other technologies from the two companies. This approach reduces the amount of extra storage you need and makes it simple to playback real production workloads against test databases securely.

We also put a video together to show how Oracle Data Masking and SnapManager for Oracle works for securing valuable data<< Unzip the attached file and launch DataMasking_SMO.htm >>. You can check out the article at http://www.netapp.com/us/communities/tech-ontap/tot-oracle-11g-0909.html

Do you plan to upgrade to Oracle 11g? If so, what are your biggest concerns about the upgrade process?
