NetApp just released the latest version of SnapProtect® management software 9.0 SP7 - part of the NetApp Integrated Data Protection portfolio. Over the years, NetApp has worked very closely with VMware to integrate its technologies to help customers better protect their data in virtualized environments. First with NetApp SnapMirror thin replication combined with VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager™ to enable automated failover for disaster recovery. Then, NetApp MetroCluster support with VMware vSphere™ High Availability and Fault Tolerance to provide continuous availability.
Now, there’s SnapProtect! It combines the benefits of NetApp Snapshots and replication with tape management in a single solution so you can easily backup your VMware data. The flexibility of SnapProtect also enables you to recover a full VM, VMDK or single file in matter of minutes.
One of the key features of this new release is VMware datastore exclusions from backup and replication. What is it and why is this important? Several deployment best practices guides recommend designs where Virtual Machine Guest OS Pagefiles and swap files are stored on a separate datastore. By providing the capability to allow users to exclude one or more of these datastores during the backup and replication of a virtual machine, customers can reduce the amount of data transferred during replication, driving increased efficiency and faster backups.
So, if you’re thinking of virtualizing or looking for a better approach to backing up your virtual environment, learn more about how to accelerate backup and recovery in virtual server environments with NetApp SnapProtect management software.
