Friea Berg, Manager – Virtualization Solutions Marketing
Last week I joined a call with City of Frisco Enterprise Technology Manager Tim Yarbrough discussing his implementation of Hyper-V on NetApp.
Based in Texas, City of Frisco is one of the fastest growing in America and a prime example of why many companies are moving toward virtualization and some of the resulting benefits. About a year ago Tim and his team were faced with data growth of 200-300% year and a siloed IT infrastructure that was increasingly challenging and time-consuming to maintain.
The IT team decided to leverage their existing NetApp storage infrastructure and consolidate their server environment using Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V. The results have been impressive: over the past 12 months the city has cut capex 54% and replaced 40 physical servers with 4, resulting in a substantial power and cooling savings.
