The converged IT infrastructure market in EMEA is estimated to be growing at 60% plus annually. A big opportunity indeed for all involved. Especially when you think individual segments (servers, network, storage, etc.) are growing at a much more sedate pace. NetApp partners with several organisations to provide offerings in this market. The most successful to date by far has been FlexPod, our joint converged infrastructure architecture with Cisco. We’ve seen an amazing 277% growth in the last year across EMEA!! FlexPod is the #1 reference architecture for converged infrastructure with more than 2,400 customers in 35 countries.
I often get asked about the success of FlexPod. Both the business model and the technology. For me, the two things that customers consistently like – 1) it’s an open, flexible solution, so no lock-in to one architecture or application and 2) it’s built on Cisco & NetApp, both leading innovation in their respective markets. For example, we have been integrating Clustered Data ONTAP into FlexPod which uniquely allows nondisruptive operations and much more.
At Cisco Live in London earlier in the year, Cisco & NetApp announced our strategic intent to invest further in FlexPod. Specifically focusing on deeper architecture integration, cloud-scale service provider solutions, branch office solutions and further application validation. Today, we’re announcing more of the fruits of our joint labour with a new family member: FlexPod Select. With the first designs being for data-intensive ‘Big Data’ workloads combining Cisco UCS C-Series servers, Cisco Nexus Switches, high-performance NetApp E-Series and FAS storage systems. FlexPod Select has been validated with Hadoop, both Cloudera including Apache Hadoop and Hortonworks Data Platform.
The FlexPod family now has a solution for even more workloads: FlexPod Express (formerly ExpressPod) for medium sized businesses and branch offices, FlexPod Datacenter for core enterprise datacentres and service providers, and FlexPod Select for dedicated, data-intensive workloads. We have also announced new validated designs with Nexus 7000 Series, Microsoft Private Cloud, SnapProtect and SAP.
With FlexPod, you don’t have to worry about integration and compatibility, it works. And you can still keep the freedom to build your own infrastructure the way you want to.
