I need to align several hundred vm's. The alignment part is simple and easily scripted.
For the grub portion that is required after alignment occurs, has anyone experimented with
options to automatically reapply grub to the vm? I am looking into possibly rolling a custom
.iso that boots + reinstalls grub once booted and then working on scripting the automatic
attachment and booting of that .iso for each vm. It's kind of backwards though...
Anyone know of a better way to automate this? The alignment makes a big difference but
running it manually across hundreds of VMs will be quite a task.
We are in the same boat--we've done most of the Windows VMs but have held off on the linux VMs due to the grub reinstall. If anyone has a slick solution they would like to share...
Count me in as another ditto on this....not quite on this scale but I do have multiple customers who ask me about Linux VM alignment (so far I mainly encourage them to focus first on Windows VM alignment just given how it's much easier).
And....might vOptimizer (VizionCore) have any hooks/scriptability to help with this?
bump, anyone have success tackling this problem?
Sorry, no. You do seem to be on the right track though. Check out the appendix in the original README for some help on building your tool.
Cheers
