Does anyone know what date the latest version (v2.0.2?) of SMMOSS v2 was released? Also, if anyone has the dates of previous releases that would be very useful e.g. v2.0R1.

Question regarding ChkSgFiles.dll in Exchange 2007

Hi,

I have a couple of Windows 2003 Lab Servers running Exchange 2007 with SME 5.0 and want to use ChkSgFiles.dll instead of eseutil for Backup Verification.

From what I read my understanding was that in an Exchange 2007 environment ChkSgFiles.dll is used automatically but if I check the backup logs, eseutil is used for verification. I changed the Registry Key HKLM\Software\Network Appliance\SnapManager for Exchange\Server UseCheckSgFilesVerify to 1 and restartet the server but eseutil is still used to verify the backups.

What do I have to change that ChkSgFiles.dll will be used by SME ?

Different amount of Transaction Logs in CCR Secondary Backup SnapInfo Directory

Hi,

IHAC with an Exchange 2007 CCR environment. Backups take place on the passive CCR node and they also create CCR secondary backups on the active node. They have to keep 30 backup versions on both sites so we configured SME to hold also 30 secondary backup versions. Now they have the problem that the truncated transaction logs are deleted from the SnapInfo directory on the passive node but are not deleted from the SnapInfo directory on the active node where the copy backup occur. Because of this behaviour the space usage of the primary Log LUNs is much more higher than on the passive LOG LUNs. They tried to verify the secondary backup to check if the logs will be deleted after verification but they remain in the SnapInfo directory.

Is this a "works as designed" behaviour or is there a possibility to let SME delete the Logs also at the CCR secondary backup site ?

1.Can SMMOSS2.0 restore data to a different farm?

2.Does SMMOSS2.0 have the catalog of the backup?

Is the catalog in the media server if there is a catalog?

Generally when installing SnapManager for SQL/Exchange, I just let all igroup management be done automatically out of SnapDrive. Are there any downsides to handling it this way? (as the upside is that using SD for this makes things very simple)

Single Mailbox Recovery 5 - fails in restore

When I try to export files to a pst this picture shows up after a while.

I have also tried to recovery old snapshots and they all do the same thing.

This picture comes up after a while when I export directly to the users mailbox.

We are running version 5 and hopefully someone out there knows this error.

SME on Exchange 2007 speeds

Hi all,

We are currently testing out SME on our Exchange 2007 environment using ISCSI. Currently the backup is taking about 1 and a half hours to backup and verify our 12 storage groups (separate luns for each database and lun) including snapmirroring to our other data center. We only have about 100 Mb in each storage group right now (will most likely grow to about 100 Gb when we move our production users), and I'm wondering if this is normal for these sizes of databases.

Backup for Exchange 2007 CCR

Basically I would like to ask what is the best practice to backup Exchange 2007 CCR with SME? Is it only backup for the active node? Or backup from the target node only?

My current setup:

The DB LUN for both nodes are resides in the same volume, the backup schedule is configured at both node and run at the same time. Snapmirror update is required after the backup. But on and off, the snapmirror is not being update, but the backup is successful.

I also integrated with Protection Manager for the archive portion, so there are two datasets being created in the Protection Manager. The archive part also faced the same problem. Sometimes, both nodes are update correctly, but sometimes only one node is running.

SME parallel job

Is it possible to back up another SG in parallel with SME5.0?

Two or more SG is backed up by one job now, and time hangs very much.

Is it effective though it wants to shorten time by the thing assumed to be one per SG job?

The time of verify is that time hangs, and I think that I am effective to do the sequential lead in parallel.
